[REVIEW] Benton – Fermentation Essence

Heyyy guys! What’s up? Its only the 1st week of 2018 and my days is already stressful. I’ll be doing my thesis defense soon, wish me luck guys!

Anyway, today I’m back again with another product review~ I’m going to tell you guys my experience with an essence that I’ve been trying since last month. Essence is kinda essential for me because I have a dehydrated skin and sometimes moisturizer is not hydrating enough for me. So I’ve been trying some essence to find a perfect match for my skin.

The essence that I tried recently is Benton’s Fermentation Essence. I used this essence for about 2 weeks and stopped using it. Why? I’ll tell you later on this post, so keep reading! I was deciding between the fermentation essence and the snail bee high content essence, but I ended up choosing the fermentation essence because I’ve never tried any kind of fermented ingredients and I want to see how’s my skin reaction to it.

Okay first thing first, lets start with the packaging. It came in a black glossy bottle with a pump. It contains about 100ml of product which is really a lot and I guess it will last a really long time. I kinda dislike the bottle because I cannot see through it, so I cannot see how much product I have left. But, I like the design of the packaging because it’s simple and in black~

Product claims

This lightweight, quick absorbing essence packs a punch with galactomyces ferment filtrate, a fermented yeast that can brighten and bring suppleness back to the skin. A high concentration of fermented ingredients, ceramides and hyaluronic acid ensures a visible boost to your skin’s elasticity and moisture levels. This fragrance and coloring-free formula is recommended for all skin types, especially sensitive. This product has a pH level of 6.5-8.5 (source: sokoglam)

The main ingredient of this essence is galactomyces ferment filtrate which is a fermented yeast and yeah basically it’s a fungus. Kinda ewww right? But! galactomyces is really a popular ingredient in Korea, you can find this ingredient in a lot of serum or essence from Korean brand. And galactomyces has a lot of benefit such as wrinkle improvement, controlling sebum, brightening, decreasing acne, increasing elasticity, and moisturizing. But there are a few studies that stated galactomyces can trigger a fungal acne (learn more about fungal acne in here). So, eventhough its kinda nasty but it’s a beneficial ingredient.

Texture

Since this essence is a first treatment essence (FTE) so the texture is really watery like a toner. It absorbed really quickly, I mean FTE is basically really watery so it only takes a few seconds to completely absorbed.

How to use?

After cleansing, apply a suitable amount to face and gently pat until absorbed.

FTE is usually used right after you cleanse your face just as the direction above. But, I use it after toning step because I feel kinda weird when I use essence before toner. I prefer use essence after toner, whether its a FTE or normal essence.

My thoughts?

Okay, basically it is my first time trying a fermented ingredient based product so I kind of putting my skin at a risk when I use it. And guess what? my biggest fear came true. This essence makes me breakouts. The first week I use this essence, two big acne starting to appear in my forehead, I thought it appear because I’ve been so stressed out, my diet is all over the place, and my period is coming, so I keep using it everyday in my AM and PM routine. But, after 2 weeks, more acne starting to make an appearance again in my forehead, cheek, and chin. Its so crazy because its a big, aching, and super red acne. So, I thought maybe its because of this essence and I decided to stop using it. And guess what? It is because of this goddamn essence. By the time I stop using it, the breakouts is finally stopped.

I might be reacting to the galactomyces aka the fermented ingredients, or the aloe barbadenis leaf extract because I am allergic to aloe vera. It is my fault because I didn’t pay attention to the ingredients when I bought this essence, I didn’t notice that this essence contain an aloe vera. However, I think the breakouts is not caused by aloe vera but rather caused by galactomyces because then again aloe vera never caused me a breakouts. So starting for now, I will never use any products that contain galactomyces ever again. But, only if this essence doesn’t makes me breakouts, I might be liking this essence. Well, its a decent essence, pretty good, pretty hydrating and moisturizing. Worth a try for people whose skin reacting well to galactomyces or fermented ingredient. But, this essence claimed that it can smoothen our skin, but I did not see any improvement or changes in my skin. So, this essence is just a moisturizing essence for me, it doesn’t have any other benefit.

Repurchase? definitely no.

Price: Rp. 180.000 (around $17)

  1. It’s always a shame when you have to stop using a product because it gave you breakouts. 😦
And it’s mostly not even because of the money wasted. I don’t know about you but ever since I became a blogger I have been looking forward to trying out new products so much and whenever I get a bad reaction to it I am really sad.

But your photography is really stunning! The arrangement is really beautiful and you can see that you are really skilled. ❤

    1. I know! I always get excited when I have a chance to try out a new product, and tbh this is the first product that caused me a breakout and I feel sad and dissapointed because I really want to like it:( but I maybe it’s the experience we (as a blogger) have to get through, right?

Awww thank you, it means a lot for me hearing it from you🖤

      1. Yes that certainly is true. When you blog, you use and test a lot products and there is always the chance that you react badly to some of them. It is still sad though.
But we always have to see the bright side: You can tell us all about your personal experience and your reaction!! ❤
